Five teens suffer minor injuries in car accident
Five teenagers all walked away from a rollover accident Thursday afternoon near Detroit Lakes. The use of seatbelts likely prevented any serious injury or passenger ejection.
“It could have been a lot worse had they not belted,” said Sergeant Shane Richard with the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident took place on County Road 25 about two miles northeast of Detroit Lakes at 12:30 p.m.
The teens were in a 2001 Ford Focus driven by 18-year-old Shelby Thorvilson of Fargo. She over-corrected after drifting onto the gravel shoulder and authorities believe that the car rolled once before coming to rest upright on its wheels.
Thorvilson, along with Brady Huffman and Jacob Hassebrock, both 18 and from Fargo, and two 16-year-old females, one from Fargo and the other from the state of Virginia, were taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes.
Richard said the driver and passengers suffered relatively minor injuries, including whiplash, concussion and a few bumps and bruises.
All five were released from the hospital Thursday evening.
