Frazee native Florence L. Dines, 79, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009 in Washington.

Florence Berend was born to Charles and Mable (Voelker) Berend on April 1, 1929 in Frazee, where she grew up and graduated from Frazee High School in 1947. She attended business college in Detroit Lakes and worked as a bookkeeper at the Frazee Creamery Company. She also worked at the welfare office in Fargo before moving to Washington, where she worked as a legal secretary.

Florence married Jerry Dines on March 11, 1955. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of St. Paul in Graham, Wash., and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years.

She enjoyed quilting, crafts, making greeting cards, reading and traveling. She was an avid Mariners baseball fan, and she enjoyed going to spring training in Arizona for many years.

Florence was also an angel collector and co-founded the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Angel Collectors Club of America.

Surviving Florence are her husband of 54 years, Jerry Dines; a daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Paterson of Baumholder Army Base in Germany; a son, Kenneth (Sheila) Dines of Roy, Wash.; a brother, Myron (Barbara) Berend of Fergus Falls; a sister, Marlene (Bob) Shasky of Frazee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all dearly loved.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Lois Kathleen.

A memorial service celebrating Florence's life will be scheduled in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MDS Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 353, Crosswick, NJ 08515, or to the charity of your choice.
