Fly Day was enjoyed by 6th-grade DL students
The Detroit Lakes city and school communities worked in unison to create an educational, interactive environment for over 220 sixth grade students last week.
Students from both Detroit Lakes Middle School and Holy Rosary Catholic School participated in Fly Day.
Fly Day was a day of exploration and unique experiences. On this day, students were invited to take a 30-minute flight in propeller-powered airplanes courtesy of area pilots. As sixth grader Heath Duel noted, "It was fun! It was something new that I haven?t ever tried before!"
Luke Eggebraaten, a fellow sixth grader, added, "It?s a good experience for everyone, because not everyone has been flying before."
In fact, that?s the purpose of the day. During the middle school years, students are encouraged to explore positive activities and healthy choices.
Thanks to volunteers, students were exposed to lead dog demonstrations, an EMT unit, and boat rides from the Minnesota DNR, among other activities.
