Football: Bombers run ball well, but fall to WAO
Waubun 34 Warren-Alvarado-Oslo 20
Despite Waubun’s Ryan Weber having a career game with 232 rushing yards, the Bombers lost to visiting Warren-Alvarado-Oslo 34-20 Friday.
The Bombers (4-3) were held scoreless in the first half and trailed 12-0 at halftime, as the Ponies (6-1) added a touchdown in the third for the 20-0 advantage.
Waubun couldn’t get any closer than 27-12, after a pair of Jordan Spaeth’s touchdowns from five and two yards out.
“We did not do the little things well, which concerns me because it is week seven already,” said Waubun head coach Paul Clark. “Missed tackles and silly penalties really put us in bad situations.
“Defensively, numerous plays had us in position to make a tackle at or behind the line of scrimmage, only to have us miss and result in nice gains for them. Add the missed tackles with poor decision making by the head coach, telling our safeties to play the run and watching them complete big pass plays because of it, and we had to play catch up.”
Waubun gained 295 yards, while WAO accumulated 306 yards, which also had three touchdown passes.
“Offensively, we moved the ball well. We just had a lot of silly penalties that would stall drives,” Clark said. “Ryan Weber ran like a bull and our line was coming off the ball well, but too well on many occasions, as we jumped offside numerous times.
“If we can improve the tackling and the silly penalties, we will be just fine.”
The Bombers will wrap up the regular season at Rothsay (1-6) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
