Football: Bruggeman scores 6 touchdowns
Pelican Rapids 50 Roseau 38
A 22-point third quarter helped propel the Pelican Rapids football team to a 50-38 Heart O’Lakes Conference win over Roseau Friday.
Viking running back also played a huge part in his team’s latest win, as he racked up six touchdowns – two by punt returns – to help erase a 22-6 deficit to the Rams.
“The third quarter was likely our best quarter of the season,” said Pelican Rapids head coach Dave Haugen. “We needed it being on the road and trailing at the half. The defense came up with some stops and with Roseau punting into the wind, we were able to generate some great field position.”
Bruggeman had punt returns for touchdowns from 64 and 26 yards out, while he added three rushing scores (one, 48 and four yards) and hauling in a four-yard end zone strike by quarterback Blaine Gorton.
The win moves Pelican Rapids to 4-1 in HOL play and 5-2 on the season.
The Vikings will play Breckenridge at the Fargo Dome Thursday, with the winner earning at least a share of the HOL Conference title.
