The Frazee Hornets played their first road game of the year and came back with a 12-0 win against a very good Fertile-Beltrami team.

Last week, Fertile-Beltrami running back Mitch Mosher earned the honor of being the top rated running back on the Minnesota Scores website, rushing for 253 yards on 25 carries.

But against the Hornets, it was a totally different story, as Mosher was held to 65 yards on 15 carries.

On the other side of the ball, Frazee’s Hesston Bachmann rose to the challenge of a big game by rushing for 204 yards on 31 carries.

“The win was a classic team effort and in watching game film, you could really see how they are starting to gel as a team,” said Frazee head coach Jim Rader. “When big offensive plays were made, it was not because an individual did it on their own, it was because 11 young men laid it on the line for one another.”

On some of the big runs, there were as many as five F-B players on the ground.

Bachmann pulled in two big interceptions, and it could be traced right back to the defensive line pressuring the QB and the linebackers taking away the short routes.

“It was truly a case of these guys playing together as a team,” Rader said. “If we continue down that road, with each player doing their part, many good things will happen.

“The Fertile-Beltrami team is always well coached, and they had several standout players (both linemen and backs) returning from last year, so we felt really good about the performance of our kids.

“We are still very inexperienced, and the jitters were still there at the start of the game, but every week we get a win playing good competition, our kids grow up a little.”

Bachmann also scored the two touchdowns for Frazee, which came on runs of 15 yards in the second quarter and 44 yards in the final quarter.

Frazee will host defending Class 1A state champion Mahnoman Friday.
