Playoffs or not, it was more of the same for the Mahnomen Indians, as they trounced No. 4 Fertile-Beltrami 58-0 with strong defense and another potent rushing attack.

The No. 1 ranked Indians (10-0) stuffed the Falcons (5-5) for just three yards of rushing, while Mahnomen put up 313 yards on 53 carries and seven touchdowns.

“It was the same story, great defense and strong running,” said Mahnomen head coach John Clark Jr. “We forced several turnovers for a short field in the second half and I also thought Luke Wamsholz played great defense.”

The Indians also had quarterback Tom Pavek under center, after missing the last several games due to an injury.

Pavek had 96 yards on 14 carries, while throwing for a touchdown and 76 yards.

The Indians will look to defend their Section 8-1A title against No. 2 Red Lake County (9-1), whose only loss came against Mahnomen in a 42-14 loss in week two.

Red Lake County topped Lake Park-Audubon 36-6 in the other semifinal game.

The game will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, inside the Fargodome.
