Football: Indians’ depth shines through
The Mahnomen football team is tapping into its young depth, after starting freshman quarterback Brian Schoenborn in Fosston under a howling wind and rainy weather conditions.
But much like the last few years have gone, it’s been a new player, same result.
Schoenborn directed the Indians (6-0) to a 36-0 victory over Fosston, despite some bumps in the road.
“I thought Brian handled himself very well, but overall, our play on offense resembled the weather – sloppy,” said Mahnomen head coach John Clark Jr.
The Indians uncharacteristically fumbled eight times, but the defense was once again dominant, allowing just 24 yards of total offense to the Greyhounds (1-5) and limiting them to zero first downs.
“Luckily, our defense played about as well as you possibly can,” Clark said.
“I don’t think you can ask for much more than that from your defense.”
Kody Lefebvre had his best game in the backfield with 122 rushing yards on nine carries, along with a 47-yard touchdown.
Schoenborn also threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kole Lefebvre, while Austin Reitan added two rushing TDs and Bob Bjorge added the other one.
The Indians will host Lake Park-Audubon (4-2) Friday, as the Raiders lost to Red Lake County 36-12.
