Football: Three Vikes rush for 100-plus yards
A trio of Pelican Rapids’ running backs broke the 100-yard mark in the Vikings’ convincing 52-20 win in Staples-Motley Friday.
Each of Ryan Bruggeman (133 yards), Gauge Lee (116) and Nick Thompson (118) found plenty of running room, as the Vikings improved to 3-2 on the season.
“One thing that made this game different from others is that the Vikings put together drives instead of long runs,” said Pelican Rapids head coach Dave Haugen. “We had three guys with over 100 yards rushing, so I’m real excited about the balance which is being developed.”
A defensive stand late in the third quarter by the Vikings added to the excitement.
The Cardinals (0-5) had a first and goal on the Pelican Rapids seven, but the Viking defense stiffened and stopped S-M on the one on fourth and goal.
That was proceeded by a 99-yard drive for a touchdown.
Pelican Rapids is 3-1 in HOL Conference play and will host East Grand Forks (0-5) Friday for the Vikings’ Homecoming game.
