Forecaster: Red River may top 30 feet in Fargo
FARGO -- A National Weather Service forecaster says he expects a flood crest in Fargo in the mid-30 foot range this spring.
Flood stage for the Red River in Fargo is 18 feet.
Steve Buan is the lead forecaster for the National Weather Service River Forecast Center in Chanhassen, Minn. He told government officials in Fargo that a new flood forecast due out Friday should give a better idea of what to expect.
Fargo City Engineer Mark Bittner says the biggest threat may be from the Wild Rice River on Fargo's south end.
Wilkin County, Minn., engineer Tom Richels says the county has lined up pumps and sandbags. He expects conditions similar to 2006, when the county was declared a disaster area.
