Former LP-A community ed director charged with theft for allegedly putting extra hours on timecard
An Audubon woman is facing a felony charge of theft from the Lake Park-Audubon School district after she allegedly submitted extra hours on her timecard that she did not work.
Deborah Lee Brakefield, 53, made her first court appearance at the Becker County Courthouse after investigators say she defrauded the school district out of $472.64.
According to the complaint, investigators met with school superintendent, Dale Hogie, who was alerted to the situation last fall.
Brakefield, who was in charge of the community education program in the district, put 28 extra hours on her time sheet over several periods that she was paid for, according to the complaint filed in Becker County District Court.
Surveillance video obtained by investigators showed Brakefield was never at work during the time periods she claimed and they did not coincide with vacation or personal time submitted.
She was terminated from her position and now faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
