Former Roseau County commissioner sentenced for tax crimes

The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced today that Orris Rasmussen, a former Roseau County commissioner, was recently convicted in Roseau County court for failing to file his income taxes.

In 2009, Rasmussen, a Roseau County Commissioner at the time, was charged with five felonies for failing to file income taxes.

Rasmussen was sentenced to $32,000 in restitution and two years supervised probation.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has a 24-hour tip line for anyone who suspects an individual or business is violating tax laws, at 651-297-5195 or 1-800-657-3500. Tipsters may remain anonymous and can also email the department at tax.fraud@state.mn.us. Last year, citizen tips resulted in 88 percent of the department's criminal case referrals.
