Former spy speaks
Former spy Werner I. Juretzko will speak at 7 p.m. in the ITOW Veterans Museum, 805 West Main in Perham. Juretzko was an agent for United States Army Intelligence (G-2) who survived six years in Stasi torture chambers after being captured by East Germany. He was released in a spy-swap just days after the Berlin Wall went up. His tale of betrayal and loss reveals first hand the stark realities of Cold War Espionage. Young Life Triathlon
The fourth annual Young Life Triathlon takes place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion & Bandshell. There will be a check-in at the Bandshell at 6:30 a.m., followed by a mandatory pre-race meeting at 7:40 a.m. and an 8 a.m. race start at the city beach. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m.; it's free to racers and $7 for spectators. The awards ceremony gets underway at noon.
