Adam Baker, 31, was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening, said a spokesman for North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn.

Baker was unconscious and breathing with the help of a respirator as of Monday, according to a CaringBridge Web site created by his supporters.

"His face is becoming more swollen and his eyes are puffy and starting to turn black and blue. Still no movement," Monday's entry said.

An entry posted Tuesday said, "The neurosurgeon has told us they have done all they can medically and now we wait and hope the swelling (on his brain) comes down."

According to the site, a doctor told the family "he believed Adam would become conscious again and would breathe on his own again but that there is no way to know what kind of brain damage he has suffered or what it means for future functioning."

The Wright County Sheriff's Department received a report at 1:36 a.m. Sunday of an assault at the Corner Bar in St. Michael. A department news release says officers found Baker unconscious with a head injury outside the bar. He was taken in an ambulance to North Memorial and immediately underwent surgery.

Lt. Todd Hoffman said a 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and a 23-year-old man turned himself in later that day. The pair was still in custody Tuesday evening.

Hoffman said no weapons were used in the altercation and that it appears to have been "a fistfight." Asked for more details, Hoffman said his department is still investigating the incident but is not looking for other suspects.

The CaringBridge site says Baker, who attended high school in Stillwater, Minn., lives in Dayton, Ohio, and works for Delta Air Lines. He was about to receive his master's degree in aviation management from UND. He served as student body president during the 2003-04 school year.

St. Michael is about 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis.
