Former WF superintendent hired to take over Frazee-Vergas post
Charles Cheney will be the interim superintendent at Frazee-Vergas School District for the next year.
The board met Friday morning to approve the contract with Cheney, who wasn't present at the meeting because he was at a class reunion in Warren, Minn. Chairman Rich Zeigler said that Cheney plans to start working Monday.
Cheney's contract is for 11 months, Aug. 1-June 30, 2012, and does not exceed 135 days in that time period.
His salary is for $485 a day, with the total not to exceed $65,475 for the contract year.
Cheney is not entitled to holiday pay, vacation pay or sick leave. Nor is he entitled to health of dental insurance, but the district is providing a $150,000 Group Term Life insurance, not to exceed $500 contribution from the district.
The district is also providing $6,000 to be deposited into a health care savings plan for the year. The district is also providing $3,225 for travel allowance.
Cheney will be given a cell phone allowance of $40 for the school year.
Cheney retired from the West Fargo School District a few years ago, where he taught, then served as assistant superintendent and then superintendent for many years. The middle school there is named for him.
He has since served as interim superintendent in Battle Lake and West Central in Barrett, Minn.
Zeigler said Cheney plans to start work right away Monday, and the next regular meeting of the board is Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 7 a.m.
