Francis M. Schreder, 76, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Holy Rosary Church in Detroit Lakes; there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church on hour prior to services on Wednesday.
A mass of Christian burial is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with Monsignor Timothy McGee officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Francis Michael Schreder was born to Frank and Ludwina (Walerius) Schreder on February 19, 1934 at Calio, N.D. He was raised and educated at Munich, N.D., graduating from Munich High School in 1952. He then attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks.
Francis was united in marriage to Maureen Metcalf in 1954 in East Grand Forks. He joined First Bank Systems, working in Rolla, N.D., Worthington, Minn., and Grand Forks. He retired in 1985 as the managing director for the Northern North Dakota Region of First Banks. Following his retirement, he and Maureen moved to their lake home on Bad Medicine Lake in rural Detroit Lakes.
Francis enjoyed time with his grandchildren, woodworking and gardening. He was a charter member of the Rolla Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Maureen Schreder of Detroit Lakes; four sons, Michael (Joy) Schreder of Grafton, Wis., Jon Schreder of Fargo, Robert Schreder of Fargo and Terry Schreder of Fargo; four daughters, Jan (Fred) Allias of Rock Springs, Wyo., Judy (Scott) Johanson of Alexandria, Minn., Melissa (Rudy Braseth) Schreder of Ulen and Mary Beth (Martin) Freeman of Cudahy, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Bernetta (Ambrose) Ruchotzky of DeWitt, Iowa.
Preceding him in death were his son, Timothy and grandson, Mikie Schreder.
