"Last year, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, it was so icy no one could come get their trees," Jay Estenson said. Estenson serves as co-chair of the festival along with Diane Mistelske and Ruth Ewanika.

The group was able to keep the decorated trees up for the following weekend and had a great turnout of people. So, they decided to continue that this year.

"A lot of work goes into it," Estenson said, whether it's seen by one person or a thousand.

Thousands is more like it. Mistelske said last year brought in roughly 3,000 people.

"And we're hoping for more this year," she added.

Plus many local people aren't able to come to the festival the first weekend because of travels for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This year there are 50 entries for the festival, but that could mean many more decorated trees.

Estenson said there is "lots of new stuff" this year to be seen.

Last year, proceeds went to improve the Frazee sign along Highway 10 coming from Perham. This year, the monies will go to replace the sign coming from Detroit Lakes, along Highway 10.

The event is free-will donation. There will be cookies, coffee and cider.

Other upcoming Frazee events include the first Holiday Gala on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Frazee Event Center. Tickets for the wine tasting event are $25, and proceeds will go to paying off the Frazee Event Center.

Hospice of the Red River Valley's Light Up a Life tree will be lit Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Frazee Event Center.
