Although the meet didn't start out well for the Lady Hornets, they recovered thanks to one of their team leaders.

Beam was Frazee's first event, with numerous falls by the Hornets. But senior Jessica Irish stuck her routine and got the team on track for the subsequent three events.

Floor was Frazee's second event and varsity competitors Emma Buhr, Irish, Montana Osterman, Kir-sten Tollefson and Jerica Totland all set season and personal bests in the event.

"Score increases were due predominately to execution improvements," said Frazee head coach Amie Erickson.

Totland started the bar competition off well, performing her flyaway dismount for the first time.

Osterman set a personal best on bars and hopes to incorporate an additional skill for next week's home meets.

"Vault has been a team favorite and the girls performed well last night," Erickson said. "Jessica Irish set a season best with her half on half off handspring.

"Jess has been struggling with the rotation off the vault and has had focused practice, which paid off."

Totland also set a personal best handspring vault score with a 7.75.

Irish won the all-around with 28.975 points, followed by Buhr's 7.75 for third place.

Junior varsity competition highlights included floor, where all six competitors set personal bests.

Of the six, all are first year gymnasts, other than eight grader Samantha Riggles.

"It's great to see the newcomers feeling comfortable on the team and performing so well," Erickson said.

Additional floor competitors included Morgan Laine, Tianna Reetz, Courtney Osterman, Justice Gustafson and Holly McCamant.

The Lady Hornets are in action Tuesday, as they host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle for Parent's Night, and Thursday the Morris Area Tigers will visit.
