Frazee man gets prison time for forgery
A Frazee man was sentenced to prison Monday on a charge of felony check forgery.
Andrew Timothy Oswald, 20, of 13340 County Highway 29, Frazee, was ordered to serve 17 months in prison and pay $190 in court fines and fees, plus $147 in restitution. A second charge of possession of stolen or counterfeit checks was dismissed.
The charges stemmed from an incident in which First Security Bank in Detroit Lakes reported that Jordan Cossette had tried to cash a forged check at the bank on Oct. 9, 2008. During the ensuing investigation, it was discovered that Oswald had forged the signature on checks stolen from his father's home and used them to obtain cash from three area banks between Oct. 6-9, 2008. According to the complaint, he had asked Cossette to cash some checks for him because he did not have an account at the bank.
