Frazee quad place on Class 1A mat
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

There was a wall erected Friday inside the Xcel Energy Center, and several of the Frazee wrestlers hit it.

That wall came in the form of the Class 1A individual semifinals, as four Hornets climbed to the final four of their respected divisions, only to be halted there with an 0-4 showing.

All four of those Frazee grapplers would place, still giving the Hornets a very respectable showing in the Class 1A individual tournament, to which they sent a total of 10 athletes.

"Everyone but one of our wrestlers won a match at state," said Frazee head coach John Barlund. "I'm very proud of our four placers, too, they were all right in the mix. That (semifinal) round was a brutal one for us, but it was a tremendous accomplishment for the kids to reach that far."

Of the four semifinalists, Ben Anderson at 135 pounds and Derek Shipman at 140 each went on through the wrestlebacks to capture third-place hardware. Kerry Lockrem finished fourth at 145 and Mike Lucero was fifth at 103.

"We had close to seven placing, so we had a good showing (individually)," Barlund added.

Anderson and Shipman each finished 4-1 on the tourney, while Lockrem and Lucero were 3-2.

Jake Sailer was one victory away from placing with his 2-2 mark at 152, while the other state participants were Andrew Lockrem (125), Zach Sullinger (130), Justin Skillings (160), Austin Bachmann (189) and Nick Galbrecht (heavyweight).
