Frazee receives $90k federal stimulus grant
The City of Frazee has been selected to immediately receive a $90,000 grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to assist local businesses in the tourism and manufacturing industry.
The Frazee grant was one of 145 grants totaling over $15.3 million nation-wide announced by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Tuesday.
Frazee officials have recently been working to establish the city as a hub for hiking, bicycling and canoeing through Northern Minnesota.
The grant will establish a revolving loan fund that will help new and existing business grow to meet the needs of the blossoming tourism industry.
Assistance also will be provided to area manufacturing plants. The grant is expected to create 14 new jobs, welcome news to residents of a county where the unemployment rate currently is at 11 percent.
