Frazee restaurant reopens

"The Restaurant"?in the Baer Building in Frazee opened a few weeks ago, while The Corner Bar and Grill is still waiting for a liquor license to be approved before opening.

A familiar landmark in Frazee is back in business.

Simply named "The Restaurant," it's been open for nearly two weeks in the Baer Building at the northwest corner of Lake Street and Main Avenue.

After a few months of work when not many in town knew what was happening, the remodeling work is starting to pay off.

Rick Green, who has been in the restaurant business for most of his life, will be managing The Restaurant.

"I knew there was an opportunity to do it well," Green said.

The Corner Bar and Grill is planning to open separately once an alcohol permit is approved by the Frazee City Council.

Green said that The Restaurant aims to cater for everyone.

Besides carrying foods expected in a diner that include burgers, sandwiches, fries and breakfast items, Green said that The Restaurant also serves higher-end items like steak and seafood.

Bringing back a restaurant in the heart of Frazee was important to Green.

He said that he and some associates knew there was void and that the community needed something.

Dave Carrier will be operating the bar portion when that part of the business opens. Green said that the bar would have a food menu as well.

"There will be food on both sides," Green said.

Another recent addition is the Frazee Bakery and Ice Creamery that relocated just inside The Restaurant in the past week.

It was a natural move, as the owners of the Baer Building, Robin and Terry Harrison, own the bakery as well.

"We offer one more thing to the community," Green said.

Green said he hopes to have a staff of 10 when everything is up to speed.

"Our staff has been really good," he added.

Green said he thinks that the menu is priced right for what they are providing.

There is a special every day, with most items running under $8.

"We think it's the right price for the quality we put out," Green said.

Keeping the community involved and being apart of it is important to Green. He said that he hopes to keep people in town fed.

There are plans for a delivery service in the near future, which will include pizza.

Green said that the delivery area would encompass a 7-mile radius from "The Restaurant," with a minimum order required.

The Restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
