Frazee school board filing opens May 22
The filing period to run for the Frazee-Vergas School Board will be open May 22. Filing closes at 5 p.m. on June 5.
There will be three four-year terms open on the school board. Dana Laine, Steve Jepson and Keith Janu currently hold those seats.
There is a $2 filing fee to run for school board. Candidates must be 21 years old or older, an eligible voter and a resident of the district for at least the past 30 days.
Filing may be done at the district administration office.
Depending on the number of candidates that file, the district could hold a primary election Aug. 14. The general election will then be held Nov. 6.
Also likely on the ballot for the Frazee district this year will be a new operating levy referendum. The current operating levy runs out next year.
A committee is still meeting on the issue, but the board should know soon about the specifics -- how much the referendum will be per student, how it will change taxes, budget projections, and so on.
The deadline is August to get the referendum on the November ballot, so the decision will come before the board at the June or July meeting.
