Frazee strikes early to take one over Red Lake Falls
The long road trip north did not hinder the Frazee football team, as they were as crisp as the fall weather, with a convincing 35-8 victory in Red Lake Falls Friday.
The Hornets (3-1) built a 21-0 halftime lead behind the rushing of senior running back Bruce Lemon, who gained 167 yards on 21 carries and adding two touchdowns in the game.
"Although we did miss a couple of early opportunities at deep passes, the offense did manage a 21-0 lead at halftime," said Frazee head coach Jim Rader "Defensively, we played solid, not giving up a point until the fourth quarter."
The Hornets struck first through the air, with Tyler Ziegler hauling in a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Baxter Bachmann.
Lemon added a 28-yard running touchdown, and then put the Hornets up 21-0 with a 31-yard end zone scamper.
Special teams were not left out, as Jordan Ketter went 51-yards for a score on a punt return, with Bachmann capping the Frazee touchdown rampage with a one-yard plunge.
"It was a total team effort, with both the back and the line on each side giving solid performances," Rader said. "One of the real attributes to this team, is the fact that we have multiple scoring threats and defensively we have new kids stepping up each week."
Frazee hosts No. 9 ranked Pine River-Backus (4-0) Friday for a 7 p.m. start.
"PRB has one of the best passing games in the state," Rader added. "I know our players will be prepared and look forward to the opportunity to make plays against them."
