Frazee-Vergas football signup is Aug. 27-28
Frazee-Vergas fifth and sixth graders will have a new opportunity this year: tackle football.
The program's lead coach, Dustin Geiser, coordinated last year's flag football program, which has been offered at Frazee for the past several years.
This year's new tackle football will be a padded full-contact youth football league offered through Hornet Football and Community Education. The league's main purpose is to promote football and teach youth the proper fundamentals as well as teamwork and sportsmanship.
Helmets, shoulder pads, pants, and protective hip, tail and leg pads will be issued to participants. Participants must provide their own football shoes and mouth guards.
Sign-up and equipment distribution for this program will be held at the high school football field press box Thursday, August 27, from 5-7 p.m. and Friday, August 28, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. (immediately prior to the Meet the Hornets event).
Participants may come either evening, and are encouraged to attend Friday's Meet the Hornets which begins with a 6:30 meal, followed by the 7 p.m. program and team introductions.
Team practices will begin September 9 and will be held Wednesdays, 3:45-5:15 p.m., at the baseball field between the water tower and the elementary school.
Scrimmages will be held on Saturdays from 9-10:45 a.m. at the varsity practice fields. The season will end Saturday, October 17. Equipment will be collected on the last scheduled day.
The fee for participation in the fifth and sixth grade tackle football league is $25 per person. Info: Dustin Geiser (218-639-9200) or Community Education (334-2525).
