Frazee woman sentenced to jail for taking vehicle without permission
A Frazee woman was sentenced Thursday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of motor vehicle theft.
Justina Ellen Gilbertson, 20, of 18915 County Highway 39, Frazee, was sentenced to 15 months in prison, stayed on conditions including 87 days in jail and up to five years of supervised probation. She must also complete community service work in lieu of $1,160 in court fines and fees.
Gilbertson was accused of taking a vehicle without permission on Sept. 3, using a spare key taken from inside the owner's residence while she was sleeping. The vehicle was later stopped because the occupants were suspected of leaving a Detroit Lakes motel without paying their bill.
Gilbertson was also facing a felony charge of check forgery that was dismissed at Thursday's sentencing. She had been accused of trying to cash two forged checks totaling $70 at Cenex in Detroit Lakes on Aug. 25.
Gilbertson had two prior theft convictions on her record, one from Jan. 31, 2011 and the other from April 2 of this year.
