Genealogy workshop in Perham
Would you like to research your family tree but don’t know how to get started? You’re invited to the free Beginner’s Genealogy Workshop on Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County in Perham.
Museum genealogists and historians will cover the basics of genealogical research and answer any questions you may have. The workshop will include a brief introduction to internet research including Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org.
The History Museum has extensive regional information in its genealogy database, but people from any area can benefit from this introductory workshop.
“We offer free access to our on-line resources including our international Ancestory.com account,” said Mary Pfeffer, lead genealogist. “It’s a great way to learn how to use the tools before making an investment on your own.”
The History Museum benefited recently from a technology upgrade to its computer equipment and networking thanks to grants from the Joint Powers Alliance in Staples and the Perham Rotary Club. Workshop participants can bring their own laptop, or use the museum computers.
Pre-registration is not required, and there is no fee to attend the beginning genealogy workshop. The museum is located at 230 First Ave. N. in Perham. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Friday 10am to 4pm and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, and extended hours for events.
