Genevive "Gen" Mae Tiege of Satellite Beach, Fla., passed away from cancer on Monday, March 14, 2011.
Gen was born on May 21, 1926 in Westbury. She attended District 7 Country School, with Dorothy Bratlie as a very special teacher, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1945.
She attended Interstate Business School in Fargo, and became a stenographer. She moved to Southern California with her sister, Ann, and worked a a secretary under the Civil Service Administration for seven years, then traveled to Norway to visit her sister, who worked in Oslo.
Gen was offered a job in the U.S. Embassy, where she worked for two years. It was there she met Air Force Lt. Jerry Tiege; they married in Oslo, Norway on June 14, 1959. Shortly thereafter, they returned to the U.S., and in the next 26 years traveled to 13 different duty stations, the last being Washington, D.C.
During this time, she gave birth to two beautiful children, Lisa and Scott, and devoted her life to raising them. Once they left home, Gen went back to her secretarial career; her last job was working in the White House and Capitol building, for President George H.W. Bush. Her job was scheduling.
Gen retired in 1993. For the next 18 years, she and her husband spent their summers in Detroit Lakes and winters in Alexandria, Va., and Satellite Beach, Fla.
Surviving Gen are her husband, Brig. Gen. Jerry Tiege; daughter Lisa Tiege and son-in-law Martin E. Dupont of Alexandria, Va.; son Scott Tiege of Virginia; and granddaughter Stephanie Dupont.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar and Hilma Pearson; sisters Virginia Pearson White, Evelyn Pearson Johnson and Anna Pearson Dwyer; and brother Karol Pearson.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 19 at Beach Funeral Home in Florida.
