Former Pelican Rapids resident George Ludwig, 97, of Fargo, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Golden Manor Assisted Living Center in Detroit Lakes.
A celebration of the life of George Ludwig will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with interment in St. Leonard's Cemetery, Pelican Rapids.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
George Ludwig was born to John and Magdelina (Wenning) Ludwig on May 11, 1916 near Selz, N.D. He was raised and educated near Selz and, in his early years, worked on the family farm.
George was united in marriage to Mikelene Heisler on January 23, 1939 in Esmond, N.D. They lived near Esmond until moving to Fargo in 1954. In Fargo, he worked as a mechanic for Russ Buick and for Overvold Motors.
They moved to their lake home near Prairie Lake in rural Pelican Rapids and George then worked for Tiny's Auto Wrecking in Fargo for the next 37 years. They returned to Fargo in 2006 and George entered Golden Manor in 2011.
He enjoyed tinkering, fishing and playing horseshoes.
Survivors include Mikilene, his wife of 74 years; two sons, Alvin (Valeta) of Otter Tail, and Dale of Pelican Rapids; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and two brothers, Michael (Virginia) of Fargo, and Adam (Dolly) of Jefferson, Wash.
Preceding him in death were a son, DeWayne; two grandchildren, Allen and Ashley; three brothers, Nick, Edward and Joe; three sis-ters, Mary, Julia and Ann; and a sister-in-law, Theresia.
