Former Detroit Lakes area resident George G. Washburn, 87, of Moorhead, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
George was born to George and Pearl (Chilson) Washburn on Oct. 16, 1921, in Chicago, Ill. From 1941-45, he served in World War II with the U.S. Air Force. George and his wife June were married in Chicago in November 1950, before moving to Moorhead. He was employed by Steffens Office Equipment from 1950-83. After retiring from Steffens, George drove truck for North American Van Lines. George and June spent many enjoyable winters in southern Texas, and the rest of the year in the Detroit Lakes area.
George is survived by his wife, June; sons, Tom (Jayne) Washburn of Moorhead and Russ Washburn of Dilworth; as well as one grandson.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Betty Balsmo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
