Georgia man receives 20 months in jail for auto theft
Major Damon Thomas, 35, of Stockbridge, Ga., has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony theft of a motor vehicle.
According to court records: On Feb. 27 a vehicle was reported stolen from a construction company in Ardmore, Okla. The next day it was spotted on Highway 10 in Becker County.
A Lake Park police officer observed it turn into a driveway, and Thomas was arrested by police and deputies as he stepped out of the vehicle.
He had been released from a federal prison in Florida on Feb. 13 and was supposed to be on his way to Las Vegas for supervised probation.
On July 10, District Judge Joe Evans sentenced him to 20 months in prison, with credit for 133 days served in jail. He must pay a $50 fine and court fees from prison earnings, and pay restitution of $2,925.
