GFAFB raises alert level ahead of 9/11
Grand Forks Air Force Base has raised its alert level a notch from Force Protection Condition Alpha to Bravo, base public affairs said today.
There is no specific threat, but the Pentagon is increasing the alert level of security forces at bases around the world ahead of the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on Sunday.
"After the raid on the bin Laden compound, we turned up information that suggested that attacks around the anniversary of 9/11 is something they were pursuing," Marine Col. Dave Lapan, a defense spokesman, told American Forces Press Service.
While there's no plot that the military knows of, he said, there's always a risk of "aspirational" terrorist attacks.
