Gideon L. Weber, 82, of Callaway, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Gideon Leonard Weber was born to Fred and Lydia (Essig) Weber on May 23, 1927 in Medina, N.D. He was raised and educated near Cleveland, N.D. Following his schooling, he worked in the family farm near Cleveland. Gideon served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm.
Gideon purchased a farm near Beaulieu, Minn., and, on May 21, 1957, he married Florence Heinle in Detroit Lakes, where they made their home. Gideon worked as a mechanic for Kandt Motors and later for Skogen's Standard, both in Detroit Lakes. In 1963, they purchased a farm near Callaway, where they made their home until the time of Gideon's death.
Gideon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9880 in Ogema. He enjoyed his grandchildren, his accordion, farming and fishing.
Surviving Gideon are his wife of 52 years, Florence Weber of Callaway; daughter, Tami (Roger) Handegard of Moorhead; son, Tony Weber of Ogema; five grandchildren; and a brother, Ray (Kathy) Weber of Puryear, Tenn. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Doris.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema; the visitation will be followed with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema, with the Rev. Del Stohs officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, with military rites provided by VFW Post 9880, Ogema.
