Ginocchio to guest conduct Detroit Lakes' All City Band Festival Grand Concert
DETROIT LAKES - The Detroit Lakes Schools Band program presents their 45th annual All City Band Festival Grand Concert on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the senior high gymnasium.
As in past years, instrumental performances include the fifth grade, middle school and senior high bands. Dr. John Ginocchio, Southwest Minnesota State University, will be the guest conductor/clinician.
Ginocchio's responsibilities include conducting the SMSU Symphonic Band and SMSU/Community Concert Band as well as directing the Star of Minnesota Marching Band, Mustang Pep Band and the SMSU Jazz Ensemble. He also teaches conducting, instrumental music education courses and private lessons on trombone, euphonium and tuba. Ginocchio is a co-founder and clinician for the Minnesota Area Conducting Workshop.
Ginocchio holds a Doctor of Arts degree in conducting and music education from Ball State University, a Master of Music degree in trombone performance from Ball State University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Prior to accepting the position at SMSU, Ginocchio served as doctoral assistant in the band department at Ball State University for three years, which followed ten years of teaching instrumental music for the Adams Central Community Schools in Monroe, Indiana.
He served as conductor of the East Central Indiana Youth Symphony Orchestra during the 2004-05 season and has guest conducted with the Ball State University Wind Ensemble and various honor bands around Indiana.
Ginocchio is an active speaker and author on topics in music education including popular music performance, composition in the classroom, programming, music assessment and music preference.
He is a member of MENC, Minnesota Music Educators Association, Minnesota Band Directors Association, National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, IAJE, ISME, CMS and is an alumnus of Kappa Kappa Psi.
The Detroit Lakes All City Band Grand Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium and will feature two selections by each band with the students grades 5-12 combining in mass for the finale of the festival.
Advance tickets are available from any DL band student. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the performance. Adult tickets are $4 and students grade 6-12 are $2. Admission is free for students grade 5 and under. Everyone is welcome.
