Girl wounded by ricocheted bullet treated in DL, not Fargo
A 15-year-old girl is recovering after being struck in the face by a bullet that bounced off a rock on Sunday.
Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon says the Frazee girl was at a friend's house about 2 miles east of Detroit Lakes when her friend's 13-year-old brother fired a shot.
The bullet ricocheted and penetrated her right cheek and sinus area. She was treated and released at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes, with injuries that were described as serious but not life-threatening.
A news release from the sheriff's department that she was taken to Fargo for treatment was incorrect, Sheriff Tim Gordon said Tuesday,
He did not release her name on Tuesday, saying the investigation is still ongoing, though he doesn't expect charges to be brought against the 13-year-old.
The shooting was reported about 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
