Gladys, the daughter of George and Allie (Severson) Olson, was born on January 24, 1912 in rural Clay County. As a young child, she attended school in Cormorant until her family moved near Pelican Lake, where she finished her schooling.

Gladys worked at Fair Hills Resort until her marriage to Calmer Skogen on December 22, 1928 in Fergus Falls. They made their home in Rollag until they moved to their farm in Lake Eunice Township in 1937.

Gladys was a hard worker; whether she was working on the farm, cleaning lake cabins until she retired at the age of 90, or taking care of her family, she always gave her best. She had a strong faith and shared it with her family.

Calmer passed away in 1997 and Gladys continued to live on the farm until she entered Sunnyside Care Center in 2007.

Gladys loved music. She enjoyed gardening and baking. During the winter months, she would make rugs to sell at the flea market in the summer. Gladys was a loving mother and grandmother; these two things she treasured the most in life.

Gladys is survived by her son, Rick (Cindy) Skogen of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren, Mark (Deanna) Farnam, Dean (Jessica) Skogen, April (Dan) Jacobson and Earl Skogen; seven great grandchildren, Derek and Laura Farnam, Johnathan, Tyler, Alivia and Elijah Jacobson and Samantha Skogen; one sister, Ruby Hulet of Blaine, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gladys in death were her parents; husband, Calmer; daughter, Lois Farnam; son-in-law, Duane Farnam; great grandson, Isaac Jacobson; seven brothers, Walter, Ernie, Orvin, Earl, Mert and Douglas Olson; and three sisters, Ruth Thomas, Violet Berg and Bea Stockstad.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Dale Robins officiating.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Interment is in Lake Eunice Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
