Grace E. Francis, 75, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, Minn.
Grace Elaine Francis was born to Gilbert and Violet (Evenson) Thompson on May 5, 1938 in Trail, Minn. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and later graduated from McIntosh High School.
She married Jerome Haugen in 1956. They made their home in McIntosh, where Grace worked at the bakery and grocery store. She then began her career as a social worker for Polk County Human Services in Crookston, Minn.
On Sept. 18, 1980 she married William Francis in Crookston. Over the years they lived in Crookston, Grand Forks, N.D., Eau Claire, Wis., and Detroit Lakes. While living in Eau Claire she worked as a fraud inves-tigator for Eau Claire County Human Services.
Grace and Bill enjoyed their lake home near Walker. They also enjoyed traveling in their retirement and spent several winters in Arizona. She liked gardening, dancing, and reading. She will be fondly remembered as a very loving and giving person.
Surviving Grace are one daughter, Sherri Pape of Thief River Falls; four sons, Jerry Haugen of Hillsboro, N.D., Larry Haugen of McIntosh, Todd (Sue) Haugen of Milwaukee and Tony (Leslie) Haugen of McIntosh; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Humphrey of Baxter and Vicki Dishman of Ripon, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Jerome Haugen (1987); second husband, Bill Francis (2012); one sister, Ruby Ostenna; two brothers, Sid and Cliff Thompson; and one brother-in-law, Paul Dishman.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
