Gymnastics: Lakers rolling right along

The high scores keep coming for the Detroit Lakes gymnastics team, as they toppled visiting Bemidji 147.875 to 140.0 Saturday inside the Flyers Gymnastics facility.

Scores of 9.0 or better were a usual site for the Lakers, as they won every event, including freshman Molly Lyngaas taking all-around honors with a 37.825.

Winning vault was seventh grader Alexis Yliniemni with a 9.6, with junior Ally Berg and freshman Leah Chavez going for marks of 9.45 and 9.3, respectively.

Lyngaas completed the top four sweep with a 9.3, while winning the next three events on bars (9.475), beam (9.45) and floor (9.6).

Eighth grader Emma Disse hit a sticky beam score of 9.25, while sophomore Jordyn Peterson registered a 9.525 on floor.

The No. 4 Class 1A ranked Lakers will now prepare for the Section 8-1A meet next Saturday, Feb. 15, which will be held in Perham, starting at 11 a.m.
