'Hairspray' coming to Fargodome

The Becker County Historical Society will host its annual meeting and dinner at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Historic Holmes Theatre Ballroom, 826 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Everyone is invited to join the Becker County Historical Society for a night of food, entertainment, a silent auction and history. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Avenue, Detroit Lakes.

The Pushcart Players will bring the popular children's show, "Stone Soup & Other Stories," to the Historic Holmes Theatre on Friday, Oct. 24 for two performances at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 apiece or $4 per student for school groups. The Fargo-Moorhead Ballet will bring its Halloween show, "Spooky Ballets," to the Historic Holmes Theatre for one show only on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students. Come early and enjoy a Ghoulish Grandparents' Tea in the Holmes Ballroom at 2:30 p.m. This first-ever event for children and their grandparents or special friends will feature bite-size sandwiches, "witches' brew," a costume contest, photo ops and other ghoulish activities. Cost is $25 for grandparents and $15 for children, including admission to the ballet as well as the cost of food and party favors.

Sit back, relax and enjoy great jazz by two of the area's best musicians, John "Mr. Jack" Hutchinson and Bill "Jazz Sticks" Mohn, as the Historic Holmes Theatre opens its 2008-09 Cabaret Nights series on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Holmes Ballroom. On Saturday, Oct. 25, Ulen-Hitterdal's Top Hat Theatre will welcome the New Roots Duo. Their music is a unique combination of finger-style guitarists Ben Woolman and Dan Schwartz. Season tickets are still available for the entire season (eight remaining concerts) in the Ulen-Hitterdal school office, Northwestern Bank and at the door for a cost of $48 individual and $120 family.
