Monday, March 16

PEO Chapter DQ

PEO Chapter DQ meets at 1 p.m. on the main floor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Dana Emery, Joann Knapp and Miriam Moen will host the meeting.

Agency on Aging meeting

Izaak Walton League

The Prairie Woods Chapter of the Izaak Walton League meets at 7:30 p.m. in the DL Public Library's upstairs meeting room. Jim Wolters, the DNR Fisheries manager for the Detroit Lakes area, will give an update on local fisheries news and upcoming projects in the area.

Old Country Bunch Band

Book discussion group

Detroit Lakes Library's book discussion group meets at 3 p.m. to discuss the book Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin. Book discussion groups are a great way to get to know other people in the community, share ideas and learn from each other. Next month's discussion will be based on the book Montana 1948: A Novel by Larry Watson. The book discussion group will meet on Tuesday, April 21, at 3 p.m. to discuss Watson's book.

Computer basics class

Come in to the DL Library from 10:30 a.m. to noon to get acquainted with a computer. Topics covered in this class include turning on and shutting down the computer, desktop operations, basic computer terminology and basic mouse and keyboard operation. No computer experience is necessary. Class size is limited, so call the library to pre-register.

VFW Irish supper

The Detroit Lakes VFW serves corned beef, cabbage and early potatoes from 5 until 9, or until gone.

Holy Rosary kindergarten round-up

Holy Rosary Catholic School hosts a preschool and kindergarten round-up. Preschool registration is from 10 to 11 a.m., and kindergarten is from 1 to 2 p.m. Learn about the programs and tour the school. For more info, call 847-5306 or visit www.holyrosary.org.

Bookmobile schedule

The Viking Library System bookmobile is at Dent School from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Dent Bank from 11 to 11:30 a.m., Richville Post Office from 11:45 a.m. to noon and Vergas Municipal Building from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Cabaret night

Sit back, relax and enjoy great music by the area's up-and-coming musicians from 5:30-7:30 p.m. during the Historic Holmes Theatre's monthly Cabaret Night. Admission is $5 for adults and students are free. Call the Historic Holmes Theatre at 844-SHOW for more information.

Create a kite

Create a Kite at the DL Library at 4 p.m. Create a kite, eat snacks and win prizes. Materials and instructions will be provided. This event is geared toward children in kindergarten through grade five.

Lake Region Garden Club

The Lake Region Garden Club meets at 7 p.m. in Lake Homes, 847 Highway 10 East. The program will feature Deb Zigler from Bergen's Greenhouse. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

Brain injury basics

Blue Sky Inc., a local provider of community supports for persons with disabilities, sponsors the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota's presentation Traumatic Brain Injury Basics beginning at 8:30 a.m. registration. The presentation is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch on your own from noon to 1 p.m. It will be in the Minnesota State Community and Technical College, DL, room 103C. Kids' Day Out

When school's not in session, the DLCCC provides a safe place for kids to have some fun. Kids are invited to the DLCCC from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for wheel-themed games, activities and crafts. Lunch and a snack are provided. Call the DLCCC at 844-4221 for prices, more information or to sign up.

Wii sports for teens

Play Wii Sports at Detroit Lakes Library at 2 p.m. Play in teams, eat snacks and win prizes. This event is geared toward students in grades six through 12.

Lenten fish dinners

The Knight of Columbus, Council 12581 of Frazee hosts an annual Lenten fish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church.

Country Twirlers

Lake Park Country Twirlers square dance at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Park school. Caller is Royce Nelson.
