Association

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity provides a picnic in the DL City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday in August. Come and have hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with beans, potato salad and beverage. Free will offering benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Holmes Community Theater. A concert follows at 7 p.m. featuring folk singer Mark Fogelson in the Bandshell. Bring your lawn chairs for the concert.

Evening of Appreciation

Sons of Norway

Sons of Norway Vikingland Lodge No. 495 meet at 7 p.m. at Union Central on Lake Avenue. The program is the youth campers who went to Language camp will tell about their fun times at camp and a surprise 10 minute video. Come see what it is about. North Country Trail hike

For a North Country Trail hike, meet at 10 a.m. where the trail crossed Highway 125, two miles northwest of Longville. The hike is 2.8 miles long in the Chippewa National Forest ending at Hazel Lake. Cars will take hikers back to the starting point from Hazel Lake.

White Earth AIS seminar

The White Earth Natural Resources Department, along with the Minnesota DNR, conducts an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) seminar from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Shooting Star Casino Event Center in Mahnomen.

Talk of the Town

Talk of the Town begins at 9 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. The program is Linda Wiedewitsch, hearing and service dog trainer. The event is free, and coffee and cookies will be available.

Haley Sue Crandall benefit

A benefit for Haley Sue Crandall is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Grace Community Church of Osage. Haley, 2, was born with three heart defects and will have open heart surgery on Aug. 21.

DL school registration

Beginning Aug. 15, all families new to Detroit Lakes School District may go to the school in your area to register your children for school. Grades 1-12 begin Sept. 4, and kindergarten begins Sept. 6.

Snellman Days is Sept. 1-3 and includes flea market, bakery stand, karaoke, hot dog eating contest, Bingo, watermelon eating contest, classic vehicle show and much more.

Little Laker Wrestling Camp

The Detroit Lakes Little Laker Wrestling Camp is Aug. 13-15 from 6-8 p.m. in the wrestling building. Wrestlers going into grades 1-6 are welcome, and it is free to all Laker wrestlers. St. Mary's Innovis Health hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques. Preschool screening

Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.

GED online

Library Storytime

Children ages 3 through kindergarten are invited to the Detroit Lakes Library on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for exciting stories and activities that are more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Rummikub, more games

Tuesday afternoons from 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m., come to Holy Rosary living room for coffee, desserts and a game of cards, board games or Rummikub. Everyone is welcome.

BC Senior Meals

Meals for persons 60 and older are served several times each week at nutrition sites in Detroit Lakes, Audubon, Lake Park, Osage, Wolf Lake and Frazee, or can be delivered directly to homes in these communities, and Callaway, via the Meals on Wheels program.

Senior Center Activities

The DL Senior Citizens Center has activities all month long. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. is Pinochle; at 1 p.m. there will be 500 and other games. Whist is played on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. On the first Monday of each month at 11 a.m. there will be music by "The Ding-a-Lings."
