Sunday, Aug. 19

Come Home to Atlanta Come Home to Atlanta worship is at 11:30 a.m. at Atlanta Lutheran Church, with pastor Jill Steichen presiding. If you would like to sing in the choir, arrive at 11 to practice with Ardith Fuglie. A fellowship potluck dinner follows worship.

Community band performs

The Park Rapids Area Community Band performs for the Wolf Lake Harvest Festival. They will be performing at 2 p.m. at the Water Front Recreational Park, 1/2 mile west of Wolf Lake and 1/2 mile north on Wolf Pack Road. Bring a chair, blanket and a little lunch and enjoy music by the lake.

Shoreham Chapel

The Shoreham Chapel, Lake Melissa, service is at 10:45 a.m., followed by coffee and fellowship. Special music is by Dave Anderson and Kelly Patten. Everyone is welcome.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Lions Club

The Detroit Lakes Lions Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn. For more information, contact Gerald Johnson at 847-3923.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity provides a picnic in the DL City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday in July and August. Come and have hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with beans, potato salad and beverage. Free will offering benefits Habitat for Humanity and the Holmes Community Theater. A concert follows at 7 p.m. featuring Doc & the Scrubs in the Bandshell. Bring your lawn chairs for the concert.

Women's Bridge

The Detroit Country Club Women's Bridge Association meets at 11:30 a.m. Please make reservations by noon on Monday, Aug. 21, by calling either Audrey Markuson at 846-0293 or Pat Staples at 847-7576.

Make the Lake

Laker cross country hosts the annual "Make the Lake" practice run around Big and Little Detroit. The public is invited to join the run. It will start at 9 a.m. in the City Park by the Pavilion. If you have any questions, call Jon Freeman at 846-1217 or Bill Kvebak at 844-5577.

Alumni wine and cheese social

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Day

The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Day celebration begins at 2 p.m. in the DL Pavilion with a veterans' fair. At 3 is the proclamation ceremony at the Pavilion.

BC taxpayers meeting

The Becker County Taxpayers Association meets at 7 p.m. in the DL Library. On the agenda is commissioners and District 2 representatives to comment on property tax issues. Everyone is welcome.

Lakes Area Quilters

The monthly meeting of the Lakes Area Quilters is at 7 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home in the Aspen room. The meeting is free and open to anyone who has an interest in quilting.

Rotary annual peach sale

The Breakfast Rotary annual peach sale has pick up locations in the Boys & Girls Club Thrift Store or K-Mart parking lots on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25. First come first serve. Sale begins at 10 a.m. Need more information? Call Kathy at 847-7459 or 847-4951.

DL school registration

All families new to Detroit Lakes School District may go to the school in your area to register your children for school. Grades 1-12 begin Sept. 4, and kindergarten begins Sept. 6.

Snellman Days

Snellman Days is Sept. 1-3 and includes flea market, bakery stand, karaoke, hot dog eating contest, Bingo, watermelon eating contest, classic vehicle show and much more.
