Hubbel Pond trapping

permits meeting

The annual meeting to issue permits for the 2012-13 Hubbel Pond Wildlife Management Area trapping season is at 7 p.m. in the DNR headquarters on Lake Sallie. Number of permits is limited to six; those who had permit in 2011-12 will not be eligible.

Larry's Plus square dance

Larry's Plus square dance is at 7 p.m. in the IOOF Hall in Detroit Lakes. Caller is Larry Johansen.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Lego creations

Elementary-age kids are invited to Detroit Lakes Library at 3:45 to build a LEGO creation that will be displayed in the library's upstairs display case. LEGOs provided, kids provide the imagination. Community shred event

Bremer Bank hosts a free community shred event from 1-4 p.m. in the Bremer Bank parking lot. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes.

Advance planning seminars

Two free advance planning seminars are at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in West-Kjos Funeral Home. They will feature legal tools by attorneys Charlie Ramstad and Lisa Tufts, identity theft by BC Sheriff Tim Gordon and advance funeral planning with Sean Petermeier, family services coordination.

Al-Anon group

Friday, Sept. 21

Casino night fundraiser

Fair Hills Resort hosts Casino Night from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include dinner, drinks and gambling chips. All proceeds go to the Becker County Historical Society and the Historic Holmes Theatre. Call 847-2938 for tickets.

Fall bazaar

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, hosts its Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. .to 1 p.m. Turkey steak dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pie for $7. There will also be baked goods, crafts, produce and a silent quilt auction. Take out boxes available for the lunch.

LP Country Twirlers

EAA chapter 1498

EAA Chapter 1498 holds a meet and greet at the Wething Airport at Detroit Lakes each Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aviators and aviation buffs are welcome. Come enjoy the coffee and rolls and listen to the countless stories from many of the pilots in attendance.

Twisted Stitchers

Scenic fall hike

Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter for a scenic fall hike at 1 p.m. The hike will be about four miles long from the Elbow Lake trailhead to Hwy 113. Meet at the Elbow Lake trailhead, which is located on the Elbow Lake road 1.6 miles west of Becker Co. Rd 37. (Look for the Many Point Scout Camp sign)

Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Snellman, hosts a hog roast and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. It is a freewill offering.

BC republicans office

The Becker County Republican Victory Office, located across from the Pavilion at Washington Avenue and West Lake Drive, celebrates its grand opening from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Come to talk, pick up yard signs, meet with candidates. Refreshments will be served.

Sauerkraut dinner

St. John's Lutheran Church, Height of Land, hosts a sauerkraut dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults are $8, kids 6-12 are $4 and 5 and under are free.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Callaway, hosts its annual fall supper from 4-7 p.m. It is a freewill offering.

Fall color nature photo

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Fall Color Nature Photo Safari at 2 p.m. Experience autumn on the refuge through the lens of a camera. With the fall colors nearing their peak, we will travel by car caravan to some very scenic and perhaps less known areas on the refuge. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located 3 miles past the visitor center on County Hwy 26.

Odd Fellows

The Odd Fellows holds their first meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the hall at 118 W. Holmes St. Visitors are always welcome.

Lakes Area Birding Club

The Lakes Area Birding Club meets at 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library. John Kelsey, a semi professional wild life photographer from Perham, will present a slide show of native Minnesota birds. Visitors are welcome.

Miscellaneous

AARP 55-Alive driving classes

There will be two AARP driving classes available. A 4-hour refresher AARP class is Sept. 25 from 6-10 p.m. in the LPA Elementary School, Audubon. Pre-register by calling 218-439-3303.

An 8-hour course for those taking the course for the first time will be Sept 29 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Audubon. Must pre-register. Call 218-439-6500.
