Pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus sponsors a pancake/French toast and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center.

Roast beef supper

Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, hosts its annual Roast Beef Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children 6-12, and children under 6 are free.

Oktoberfest

The 17th annual Oktoberfest is from noon to 8 p.m. in the Frazee Event Center. Admission is $10 per person. Leon Olsen Band and Wee Willie will be playing music throughout the day, and German food and cash bar are available.

Hike for Hope

The 12th annual North Country Trail Hike for Hope begins at 1 p.m. at the trailhead on Steamboat Forest Road north of Thorpe Tower. The trailhead is 1.2 miles east of Thorpe Township Hall in Hubbard Country. The township hall is located on HWY 91, which commences north of Nevis and Dorsett and runs to Hwy 200 east of Lake George. The 3.1-mile hike is to Forest Rd Spur 1.

Forest fungi walk

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Forest Fungi Walk at 2 p.m. Join USDA plant biologist Tom Gulya for a walk in the woods. Explore the maple basswood forest while in pursuit of fascinating fungi. Meet at the Old Indian Hiking Trail located on County Hwy 29 in the southern half of the refuge.

Monday, Oct. 8

Grieving my way

Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Hospice of the Red River Valley. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.

Author Enger speaks

Minnesota Author Lin Enger tells his own version of 'Hamlet' through his story of a young man trying to hold his family together in a world tipped suddenly upside down. He will be at the Cormorant LINK Site at 10:30 a.m. and the Detroit Lakes Library at 1:30 p.m.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495, Detroit Lakes, meets at 7 p.m. in Union Central. The program is Milton Haugrud, showing and telling about his willow canes and walking sticks he makes. There will also be a foundation drawing. Tickets may be purchased from any officer or on Tuesday before drawing. Coffee and goodies will follow program.

Church rummage sale

The United Methodist Church, DL, hosts a rummage sale from 4 to 6 p.m.

DL Christian Women's Club

The DL Christian Women's Club hosts Finding Diamonds in the Garbage from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Holiday Inn. Lunch cost is $8.50. Call for reservations by Oct. 8 to Norma at 846-1977 or Ruth at 847-5507.

Brown Bag Lunch series

Midwest Paranormal Files speaks at noon in the Becker County Museum as part of the monthly Brown Bag Lunch series. The group will talk about how the history of a place can both positively and negatively affect their investigations. Bring your own lunch or reserve a box lunch for $5 by 10 a.m.

The United Methodist Church, DL, hosts a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Legion Auxiliary meeting

The John Bridges Unit 15 American Legion Auxiliary, DL, meets at 7 p.m. in the Legion clubroom.

Genealogical Society

The Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. The Becker County Republicans meet at 7 p.m. in the DL City Offices.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Linda Engelman (please note change of location) with Pat Becker and Sue Boyle assisting. Several members will present their life stories for the program. Dessert will be served.
