Legion Auxiliary meeting
The John Bridges Unit 15 American Legion Auxiliary, DL, meets at 7 p.m. in the Legion clubroom.
The Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. PEO Chapter FG
P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Linda Engelman (please note change of location) with Pat Becker and Sue Boyle assisting. Several members will present their life stories for the program. Dessert will be served.
Friday, Oct. 12
Friendly Squares dance
The Friendly Squares hosts a square dance in the Century school in Park Rapids. There will be a "plus workshop" from 7:30-8 p.m., and mainstream dancing from 8 to 10. The caller will be Larry Johansen, and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between tips. There will be a potluck lunch furnished by the club members. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.
VFW Auxiliary dinner
The VFW Post 1676 Ladies Auxiliary 80th anniversary celebration dinner at the Post begins serving at 5 p.m. until gone.
Saturday, Oct. 13
The Lakes Country Woodcarvers meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Washington Square Mall, DL. Spectators are welcome.
Cowboy action shooting

Lakes Area Quilters Guild
Lakes Area Quilters Guild sponsors a lecture and trunk show by Sue Harmon called Scraps from the Stash -- Old and New at Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, at 7 p.m. Sue Harmon, quilt historian, will discuss scrap quilts and show both antique quilts and newly made quilts as a part of the program. Cost is $5, and there will be door prize drawings, with cookies and coffee to follow.
Sunday, Oct. 14
St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Hawley, hosts a turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschool are free.
The Knights of Columbus sponsors an all you can eat spaghetti dinner from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for 5-12 and under 5 are free.
The Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church hosts a Harvest Festival at 4 p.m. There will be music, singing, fellowship, pie and coffee and horse-drawn wagon rides after the program.

Heisler, Bunker piano
Paul Heisler and Russell Bunker perform in concert Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, DL, and Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham. Vocalists Kathryn Larson and Ashley Morben will also perform. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit piano and voice scholarships. Receptions will follow each performance.
Family photo fundraiser
The Detroit Lakes School Readiness Preschool program will hold a Family Photo Fundraiser on Oct. 15 from 8:15 a.m.-7 p.m. and Oct. 16 from 8:15 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Lincoln Education Center. Photos will be taken by Schurman Photography. There is no sitting fee and parents can choose individual or family photos. 10 percent of all sales will be returned to the preschool program to purchase classroom supplies. Pumpkins n Ponies
Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 6-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Timberline Ranch will be having hayrides to a pumpkin patch, roasting hot dogs over an open fire, offering small trail rides, free petting farm and a few more surprises. The ranch is 5 minutes from DL on Hwy 34 east.

A coat give-away is Oct. 8-12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, DL. Anyone in need of winter coats, hats and mittens can pick them up at no charge. Items will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis in size from children to adult.

Muzzleloader, deer rifle
The Osage Sportsmans Club will be opening its range to the public for Muzzleloader and Deer Rifle sight-in. Muzzleloader sight-in will be Oct. 20-21. Deer Rifle Sight-In will be Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. LPA Community Ed events
Lake Park Audubon Community Education is hosting three magnificent events on Nov. 10 -- the Health & Leisure Expo, Holiday Expo and a rummage sale. They are looking for vendors. Holiday Expo is $12 per space; Health & Leisure is $25 per space, and rummage sale is $10 per space. There will be $5 extra per table if community ed provides them. Each event is in a separate room. Defensive driving course
A defensive driving 4-hr class is being offered Oct. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the United Community Insurance Agency, Perham. An 8-hour class is Oct. 16 and 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. They are open to anyone wanting to maintain their 10 percent insurance discount. Alzheimer's quilt exhibit
"Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope" is a traveling quilt exhibit. It consists of 236 quilts featuring the names of 10,000 people who have/had Alzheimer's as well as poignant illustrations of Alzheimer's in quilt form. It will be open to the public Oct. 5 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Oct. 7 from 1-5 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home.
L.A. Moms group
L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A.
