Thursday, Oct. 18

BCHS annual meeting

Photographer Doug Ohman speaks during the Becker County Historical Society's annual meeting about his interesting stops along Minnesota's Scenic Byways. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the museum. Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door.

St. Luke's 140th anniversary

St. Luke's Episcopal Church, DL, hosts its 140th anniversary celebration at 7 p.m. There will be an evening prayer service, followed by cake and ice cream. Everyone is invited to come.

Pumpkin art

Elementary-age kids and teens are invited to Detroit Lakes Library to carve pumpkins between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Pick out a pumpkin, decorate it and then take the decorated pumpkin home. Pumpkins and carving tools provided, bring your imagination. Teens will assist younger participants. Twisted Stitchers

End of Season Celebration

The public is invited to the Terrapin Station in Nevis for the End of Season Celebration of the local chapters of the North Country Trail Assoc. The event begins at 5 p.m., with social time, followed by a picnic supper with meat and beverage furnished by the chapters. The program includes the executive director of the NCTA and Anne Dunn, local Anishinaabe storyteller.

Blood drive

The DL Women of Today host their annual blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to noon in the DLCCC. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are always welcome. Contact Kathy at 847-1002 to make an appointment. Refreshments provided for donors.

Old time variety dance

An old time variety dance is from 7 to 10 p.m. in the White Pine Room, Frazee. Music is by Stan's Country Dutchmen.

Lutefisk dinner

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shell Lake hosts a lutefisk, lefse, meatball dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be homemade pie, Rommegrote, bake sale and quilts.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Color Guard breakfast

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard breakfast fund-raiser is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion. A $6.50 donation is appreciated.

Lakes Figure Skating Club

Lakes Figure Skating Club begins fall registration at 4 p.m. for ages 4-adult, beginner hockey, beginner, intermediate and advanced figure skating, group or private lessons. Cost varies on ability level and ice time. Wear layers, and bring skates, gloves, hat. Bring outgrown skates to trade or sell. Beginner lessons start at 5:30. For more info, call Deb at 841-7843.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Crisis center benefit

Burger King Benefit Night: From 5-8 p.m., 20 percent of the sales at Burger King will benefit the Lakes Crisis and Resource Center. In addition, anyone donating $5 to LCRC that night at the store will receive a free Whopper coupon.

Lake Park Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Lake Park City Center. It is a Halloween party, so please come in costume. Roll Call: garden publications you like. Garden talk: Janet Dahlgren. Business: Pumpkin Fest report, election of officers. Program: Connie Kossick. Lunch: Janet Dahlgren. The Garden Club always welcomes persons interested in horticulture and involvement in bettering our community through horticulture projects.

LP-A Community Ed classes

Lake Park Audubon Community Ed. Offers the following classes: Ghost Hunting 101, Oct. 18 from 6 to 8; Power Point for Beginners, Oct. 29 from 7 to 9.

Women in Biz speaker

Robin Huebner will be the speaker for the Oct. 24 Women in Business program, sponsored by St. Mary's Foundation Business Relations committee. The program is at noon at The Fireside. Cost is $15 including lunch. RSVP required by Oct. 19 by calling 844-0719.

Pumpkins n Ponies

Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 6-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Timberline Ranch will be having hayrides to a pumpkin patch, roasting hot dogs over an open fire, offering small trail rides, free petting farm and a few more surprises. The ranch is 5 minutes from DL on Hwy 34 east.

Haunted woods, barn

The Second Time Around Shop, located on Highway 59 between Ogema and Waubun hosts a haunted woods and barn Oct. 19-20 and 26-27 from dusk to 11 p.m. Cost is $10. For more info, call 218-204-0192 or 218-850-1100.

Osage deer rifle sight-in

The Osage Sportsmans Club will be opening its range to the public for Muzzleloader and Deer Rifle sight-in. Muzzleloader sight-in will be Oct. 20-21. Deer Rifle Sight-In will be Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. Open every day from 9 a.m. to dusk except Sunday where there is no morning shooting. The cost is $5 per gun. For more information, call Al Belt at 218-732-0978.

Becker County rifle sight-in

The Becker County Sportsmen's Club rifle sight-in is Oct. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for members with their current membership card. Others will be charged $5 per gun. Youth shooters age 12-18 will be free with tier MN Firearms Safety Certificate and being accompanied by an adult.

LPA Community Ed events

Lake Park Audubon Community Education is hosting three magnificent events on Nov. 10 -- the Health & Leisure Expo, Holiday Expo and a rummage sale. They are looking for vendors. Holiday Expo is $12 per space; Health & Leisure is $25 per space, and rummage sale is $10 per space. There will be $5 extra per table if community ed provides them. Each event is in a separate room. L.A. Moms group

L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Moms is held the first and third Wednesday of each month throughout the school year from 9-11 a.m. at the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes. For more info, call 218-846-1199.
