Color Guard breakfast

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard breakfast fund-raiser is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion. A $6.50 donation is appreciated.

Lakes Figure Skating Club

Lakes Figure Skating Club begins fall registration at 4 p.m. for ages 4-adult, beginner hockey, beginner, intermediate and advanced figure skating, group or private lessons. Cost varies on ability level and ice time. Wear layers, and bring skates, gloves, hat. Bring outgrown skates to trade or sell. Beginner lessons start at 5:30. For more info, call Deb at 841-7843.

Overeaters Anonymous, Serenity Group

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Crisis center benefit

Burger King Benefit Night: From 5-8 p.m., 20 percent of the sales at Burger King will benefit the Lakes Crisis and Resource Center. In addition, anyone donating $5 to LCRC that night at the store will receive a free Whopper coupon.

Lake Park Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Lake Park City Center. It is a Halloween party, so please come in costume. Roll Call: garden publications you like. Garden talk: Janet Dahlgren. Business: Pumpkin Fest report, election of officers. Program: Connie Kossick. Lunch: Janet Dahlgren. The Garden Club always welcomes persons interested in horticulture and involvement in bettering our community through horticulture projects.

A Place to Belong open house

An open house at A Place to Belong, 101 Graystone Plaza, (second floor next to Godfathers) is from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. There will e refreshments, prize drawings and club tours.

ULTRA Snowmobile Club

ULTRA Snowmobile Club general membership meeting is at 7 p.m. in the American Legion. All enthusiasts welcome.

Friday, Oct. 26

Square dance

The Friendly Squares host a dance in the Park Rapids Century School. There will be a "plus" workshop from 7:30-8 p.m., and mainstream dancing from 8-10. The caller will be Royce Nelson, and Donna Stone will cue round dancing. The club members will furnish a potluck lunch. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

Wild game feed, raffle

The Wolf Lake Lion's wild game feed and raffle is from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Wolf Lake Lion's Community Hall.

Pumpkins n Ponies

Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 6-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Timberline Ranch will be having hayrides to a pumpkin patch, roasting hot dogs over an open fire, offering small trail rides, free petting farm and a few more surprises. The ranch is 5 minutes from DL on Hwy 34 east.

Haunted woods, barn

The Second Time Around Shop, located on Highway 59 between Ogema and Waubun hosts a haunted woods and barn Oct. 26-27 from dusk to 11 p.m. Cost is $10. For more info, call 218-204-0192 or 218-850-1100.

Osage deer rifle sight-in

The Osage Sportsmans Club will be opening its range to the public for Muzzleloader and Deer Rifle sight-in. Muzzleloader sight-in will be Oct. 20-21. Deer Rifle Sight-In will be Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. Open every day from 9 a.m. to dusk except Sunday where there is no morning shooting. The cost is $5 per gun. For more information, call Al Belt at 218-732-0978.

Becker County rifle sight-in

The Becker County Sportsmen's Club rifle sight-in is Oct. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for members with their current membership card. Others will be charged $5 per gun. Youth shooters age 12-18 will be free with tier MN Firearms Safety Certificate and being accompanied by an adult.

LPA Community Ed events

Lake Park Audubon Community Education is hosting three magnificent events on Nov. 10 -- the Health & Leisure Expo, Holiday Expo and a rummage sale. They are looking for vendors. Holiday Expo is $12 per space; Health & Leisure is $25 per space, and rummage sale is $10 per space. There will be $5 extra per table if community ed provides them. Each event is in a separate room. Contact the Community Ed office for more info.

Defensive driving course

Defensive driving 4-hr class is being offered Oct. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the United Community Insurance Agency, Perham. An 8-hour class is Oct. 16 and 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. They are open to anyone wanting to maintain their 10 percent insurance discount. L.A. Moms group

L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Moms is held the first and third Wednesday of each month throughout the school year from 9-11 a.m. at the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes. For more info, call 218-846-1199.

Wednesday story time

Family fun story time is every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the VFW in Pelican Rapids. Everyone is welcome. Listen to, or tell, your favorite story.

TOPS meeting

Minnesota TOPS Chapter 1251 meets every Tuesday in the Lake Park Lutheran Church, using the West church entrance to the basement. Effective April 3, weigh-ins start at 4 p.m., the meeting starts at 4:15 p.m. For more information, call Marion at 218-532-2883.

Foster homes are needed. If you or someone you know can help, please call Becker County Children and Family Services 218-847-5628 and ask for Intake. You can make a difference in a child's life.

Birthing class

St. Mary's Innovis Health hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques. Suggested donation is $30 for all five classes. Classes are Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call (218) 847-0804.

Card making, scrapbook classes

The DL Senior Citizen Center hosts a card making and scrapbooking class every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon. Donated cards are welcome.

Preschool screening

Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.

GED online

Now available, study online for the GED. Contact Detroit Lakes Adult Basic Education at 844-5760 or stop by the office in the Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Detroit Lakes.

Library Storytime

Children ages 3 through kindergarten are invited to the Detroit Lakes Library on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for exciting stories and activities that are more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
