Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Osage Sportsmans Club

The Osage Sportsmans Club meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Osage Community Center.

Teen book discussion

MAC/NAPS

The December MAC-NAPS distribution from 3-5:30 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Applications are available at St. Luke's Church; to qualify you must be at least 60 and meet the USDA income guidelines.

A dulcimer jam is at 6:30 p.m. in Lincoln Park Senior Living Center.

Lake Country Scenic Byway

The Lake Country Scenic Byway Association meeting is the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in Grace Community Church, Osage.

Saturday, Dec. 8

Christmas Festival Bazaar

The Hawley Lutheran Church Christmas Festival Bazaar is from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Salad bar with wild rice soup lunch served with Scandinavian buffet. Raffle, crafts, baked and canned goods. Will be collecting towels and blankets for homeless shelter.

Dixon benefit

A spaghetti dinner benefit for Don and Glennis Dixon is from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Boys and Girls Club, DL. There will also be a silent auction. The couple lost their home and everything inside from a fire. An account has also been set up at Midwest Bank for donations.

Chapter DQ, PEO

P.E.O. Chapter DQ meets for a holiday brunch at 9:30 a.m. in the home of Liz Fossen. Assisting hostesses are Margaret Gunderson, Sue Hesby, Maxine Nelson and Dana Emery. Items will be collected for the Food Pantry and well as gifts to be included in baskets given to families. Anne Jorgenson will present a program of Christmas music.

Sunday, Dec. 9

Miss America send-off

The Miss Northwest Pageant Committee hosts a send-off party from 3-5 p.m. in the Historic Holmes Theatre for Miss Minnesota Siri Freeh. She will be performing her talent and presenting her wardrobe for the Miss America competition. Refreshments will be served. One Starry Night event

Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church hosts One Starry Night Christmas event, (A Night in Bethlehem) beginning at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy various shops and make crafts as they might have appeared in the streets of Bethlehem the night Jesus was born. Come and see a shepherd tending live animals, taste foods that might have been in the market place and hear excited shepherds telling of the birth of the Savior.

Grieving my way

Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Hospice of the Red River Valley. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.

Holiday concert

Lake Park-Audubon High School holiday concert, "Sing We Noel," is at 1:45 and 7:30 p.m. The concert features Senior High Choir, Junior Choir, Raider Pop Group and soloists.

'How the Grinch Stole

Christmas'

Summit Dance School presents "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" at 1:30 p.m. (area schools) and 7 p.m. (public) in the Historic Holmes Theatre. Tickets sold at the theatre -- adults are $7 and students are $5.

Holiday baking

Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed offers Holiday Baking With Anna from 6 to 10 p.m. in Lake Park High School Consumer Science Room. Cost is $8. Bring a take home container.

Ladies Christmas Tea

Community Alliance Church, DL, hosts Ladies Christmas Tea at 7 p.m. Join them for a fun ladies night out with special guest speaker Sherry Johnston. Sherry was on The Biggest Loser's "Pink Team" Season 9. Tickets are $6 and available at Community Alliance Church. Dessert will be served.

MN historian speaks

Minnesota Historian Dr. Verlyn Anderson speaks at 10:30 a.m. in the DL Library. Do you say "Uff da?" Do you eat lutefisk? If so, this program is for you! Dr. Verlyn Anderson, a retired college professor and library director, is an authority on Scandinavians in America. He'll share a fascinating presentation on Scandinavian immigration to our area.

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495 in Detroit Lakes hosts a potluck supper at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting, in Union Central. Bring a dish to pass; plates, utensils, beverage will be furnished. The program will be Vikingland Lodge Choir singing some special Christmas carols in Norsk and English, with sing-along to follow of favorite Christmas carols.

Park Rapids Classic

Chorale concert

Park Rapids Classic Chorale, under the direction of Jim Wheeler, hosts two Christmas concerts -- Friday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. -- in St. John's Lutheran Church, Hwy 34, Park Rapids. Holiday treats will be served by Classic Chorale members. There is a free will offering.

Basic estate planning

Frazee Community Education offers Basic Estate Planning with Sam Rufer and Charles Seuntjens of the Pemberton Law Firm on Dec. 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the FHS Media Center (enter Door No. 16 in back parking lot). Cost is $15. Sign up by Dec. 3.

Santa letters

The Detroit Lakes Women of Today are helping Santa! Visit www.facebook.com/groups/dlwomenoftoday to download and print your form, or pick one up at Central Market, The Washington Square Mall, The Library or The Chamber of Commerce, to get a personalized letter sent to your child. Proceeds benefit local organizations and service projects. Cost is $3 per letter.

Lake Park Community Ed

Lake Park Community Education offers several upcoming classes. Holiday Baking with Anne -- Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 10 in Lake Park High School Consumer Science Room. Cost is $8 plus price of ingredients. Bring a take home container the night of the class.

Scrap-booking with Candi. Classes are Tuesday, Jan. 15, 22, 29, and Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Fee is $30 for all 4 classes plus cost of supplies paid to Candi.

On going classes: Yoga, Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Fee is $5 per session; Zumba, Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fee is $5 per session.

L.A. Moms group

L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Parents Supporting Parents meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. Help and support for those who are struggling with addition among their family or friends. TOPS chapter 1251

Minnesota TOPS Chapter 1251 meets every Tuesday in the Lake Park Lutheran Church, using the west church entrance to the basement. Effective immediately weigh-ins start at noon and the meeting at 12:30 p.m. New members are always welcome. If you would like more information, contact 532-2883
