Miss America send-off
The Miss Northwest Pageant Committee hosts a send-off party from 3-5 p.m. in the Historic Holmes Theatre for Miss Minnesota Siri Freeh. She will be performing her talent and presenting her wardrobe for the Miss America competition. Refreshments will be served. One Starry Night Christmas event
Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church hosts One Starry Night Christmas event, (A Night in Bethlehem) beginning at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy various shops and make crafts as they might have appeared in the streets of Bethlehem the night Jesus was born. Come and see a shepherd tending live animals, taste foods that might have been in the market place and hear excited shepherds telling of the birth of the Savior.

Grieving my way
Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Hospice of the Red River Valley. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.
Lake Park-Audubon High School holiday concert, "Sing We Noel," is at 1:45 and 7:30 p.m. The concert features Senior High Choir, Junior Choir, Raider Pop Group and soloists.

'How the Grinch Stole
Summit Dance School presents "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" at 1:30 p.m. (area schools) and 7 p.m. (public) in the Historic Holmes Theatre. Tickets sold at the theatre -- adults are $7 and students are $5.
Lake Park-Audubon Community Ed offers Holiday Baking With Anna from 6 to 10 p.m. in Lake Park High School Consumer Science Room. Cost is $8. Bring a take home container.
Ladies Christmas Tea
Community Alliance Church, DL, hosts Ladies Christmas Tea at 7 p.m. Join them for a fun ladies night out with special guest speaker Sherry Johnston. Sherry was on The Biggest Loser's "Pink Team" Season 9. Tickets are $6 and available at Community Alliance Church. Dessert will be served.
MN historian speaks
Minnesota Historian Dr. Verlyn Anderson speaks at 10:30 a.m. in the DL Library. Do you say "Uff da?" Do you eat lutefisk? If so, this program is for you! Dr. Verlyn Anderson, a retired college professor and library director, is an authority on Scandinavians in America. He'll share a fascinating presentation on Scandinavian immigration to our area.
Sons of Norway
Vikingland Lodge No. 495 in Detroit Lakes hosts a potluck supper at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting, in Union Central. Bring a dish to pass; plates, utensils, beverage will be furnished. The program will be Vikingland Lodge Choir singing some special Christmas carols in Norsk and English, with sing-along to follow of favorite Christmas carols.

Brown Bag Lunch Series
The Becker County Historical Society hosts its Brown Bag Lunch Series from noon to 2 p.m. Come celebrate Christmas at the annual open house. There will be music, light refreshments and the opportunity to learn about Christmas past. You can reserve lunch at 847-2938 for $5.
Detroit Lakes NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1842 meets at noon in the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes. Due to the holiday season, no speaker is planned for this meeting. Contact President Virginia Weston at 218-847-6483 for additional information.
Angels watching over us

Mini Advent concert
DL First Lutheran Church presents its second Advent mini-concert from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by soup and sandwiches from 12:30 to 1. Performing will be the Women's Advent Choir, violinist Maree Pesch, organist Anne Jorgenson and soloist Erlene Decock. Lunch is a free-will offering. The public is invited to attend.

Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society holds its Christmas party on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. Please bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Becker County Food Pantry. PEO Chapter FG
P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Mary Nordmark, with Rachel Windloss and Beve Melgaard assisting. The program will be a gift exchange game. Dessert will be served.
Friday, Dec. 14
There is a square dance in Century school in Park Rapids, with a "plus" workshop from 7:30 to 8 p.m. and mainstream dancing from 8 to 10. The caller will be Myron Hollatz, and Donna will cue round dancing between trips. The club members will furnish a potluck lunch after the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.
The CP Holiday Train stops at the Holmes Street crossing at 3:15 p.m. Bring a food donation for the Becker County Food Pantry.
Saturday, Dec. 15
Youth dance party
A dance party for youth begins at 6 p.m. in the Northern Lights Freedom and Life Church, east of Richwood on Co. Rd. 34. Sponsored by A Generation United for Jesus, the party will include music, food and fun.
Old Time Variety Dance
An Old Time Variety Dance is from 7 to 10 p.m. in the White Pine Room, Frazee. Music is by Stan's Country Dutchmen.
ECFE Santa's Workshop
The Detroit Lakes Early Childhood Family Education Program invites all families with preschoolers to a free Santa's Workshop on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 4:30-6 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 14, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Lincoln Education Center. Children and their parents will make decorations and gifts, play holiday games, visit with Santa, and more. Childcare providers and grandparents are also welcome to bring children they care for.
