Share a Story

Share a Story family literacy event is from 10:15 a.m. to noon in the DL Library. There will be free books, a story center, displays on the importance of early childhood literacy and more. Curious George will be there also. All young children are welcome.

Lakes Area Quilters

The monthly meeting of the Lakes Area Quilters is at 7 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home. All interested quilters are welcome.

BC Taxpayers Association

The Becker County Taxpayers Association meets at 7 p.m. in the DL Public Library. Guest speaker is county commissioner Ben Grimsley. Everyone is welcome.

World Day of Prayer

Grace Lutheran Church hosts World Day of Prayer beginning with a service at noon, followed by a light lunch. Everyone is welcome.

Lakes Plus square dance

Lakes Plus hosts a plus dance from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall, 118 W. Holmes St., Detroit Lakes. Royce Nelson will call the tips. Potluck finger foods will be provided. All dancers and spectators are welcome.

'80s workout party

The Detroit Lakes Women of Today host a Jane Fonda style '80s workout party at 7 p.m. in the DLCCC. Certified instructor Cindy Bruflodt will lead the group, and prizes will be awarded for the best '80s workout gear (costumes are optional). Admission is free. The Detroit Lakes Women of Today has membership opportunities for women ages 18 and older who wish to make a difference in our community.

Saturday, March 2

Cross country ski

Rainbow Rendezvous XC Ski Race begins at 10 a.m. at Rainbow Resort, Waubun. Race distance are 10K skate, 10K classic and 6K tour on Rainbow Resort Ski Trails. Registration and bib pickup is 9-9:45. Specially designed (Snow-Flake) medal awards, door prizes, post-race soup, refreshment, cookies and coffee provided with your race fees. A $100 cash award goes to whoever breaks the course record for the 10K skate race or 10K classic race.

Tuesday, March 5

High Mileage Fellowship

High Mileage Fellowship meets the first Tuesday of each month in Community Alliance Church, DL. There is a pot-blessing meal at noon, followed by a time of sharing birthdays and anniversaries, a Bible Nugget and special music. This is an inter-denominational fellowship for all those 55 and over.

Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.

Childhood training session

A free training session with Dr. Jim Torkildson is for parents, teachers and everyone who cares about young children. It is March 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in M State conference room. The presentation will discuss early childhood mental health, trauma and brain development. Register by March 4 at 847-1385 ext. 303. Clock hours are available.

Holy Rosary Lenten services

Knights of Columbus host Friday night fish fries during Lent on March 1, 8, 15 and 22. They are from 5 to 7 p.m. in Holy Rosary Parish Center. Adults are $8 and students under 12 are $5.

Sacred Hearth Lenten dinners

Knights of Columbus Frazee Council 12581 annual Lenten fish dinners are March 8 and 22 from 5-7 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee. Adults are $8, kids (7-14) are $5, and 6 and under are free. Everyone is welcome.

Kidsfirst preschool

Kidsfirst Preschool at First Lutheran Church, DL, will begin taking fall 2013 registrations on March 1. Please come in person and bring your child's immunization records with you. L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Moms group, you will have a chance to socialize with other moms, hear some great teaching, have discussion time and participate in creative activities. L.A. Preschool screening

Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.
